Take this medication by mouth once a day or as directed by your doctor. Do not increase your dose or take this more often than directed. Do not take this medication for several days before allergy testing since test results may be affected. Desloratadine is the most active metabolite of loratadine; indeed, it is 14-17 times more potent than its predecessor.
Just like Claritin, Clarinex is non-sedating and well tolerated, with adverse effects similar to placebo. Available as a 5 mg tablet, it is dosed once daily without regard to meals and is indicated for patients ages 12 and older. It has yet to be approved for the pediatric population, and no dosage adjustment is required in the geriatric population. Clarinex is indicated for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and was studied both during spring and fall allergy seasons prior to approval.
