Cefazolin Sodium, About your treatment, MEDLINEplus:" Your doctor has ordered cefazolin, an antibiotic, to help treat your infection. The drug will be either injected into a large muscle (such as your buttock or hip) or added to an intravenous fluid that will drip through a needle or catheter placed in your vein for 30 minutes, two to four times a day. Cefazolin eliminates bacteria that cause many kinds of infections, including lung, skin, bone, joint, stomach, blood, heart valve, and urinary tract infections."


Ceazolin Sodium, Range and Frequency, Whole Health MD:"Adults and teenagers: 250 to 1,500 mg every 6 to 8 hours into a vein. Children 1 month to 12 years: 6.25 to 25 mg per 2.2 lbs (1 kg) of body weight every 6 hours, or 8.3 to 33.3 mg per 2.2 lbs every 8 hours into a vein.",1524,97,00.html


Cefazolin Sodium, Indications, RXlist:"Cefazolin for injection is indicated in the treatment of the following serious infections due to susceptible organisms: Respiratory tract infections due to S. pneumoniae, Klebsiella species, H. influenzae, S.aureus (including penicillinase-producing strains), and group A beta-hemolytic streptococci. Injectable penicillin G benzathine is considered to be the drug of choice in the treatment and prevention of streptococcal infections including the prophylaxis of rheumatic fever. Cefazolin is effective in the eradication of streptococci from the nasopharynx; however, data establishing the efficacy of cefazolin in the subsequent prevention of rheumatic fever are not available at present. Genitourinary tract infections due to E. coli, P. mirabilis, Klebsiella species, and some strains of Enterobacter and enterococci. Skin and skin-structurs Infections due to S. aureus (including penicillinase-producing strains) and group A beta-hemolytic streptococci and other strains of streptococci. Biliary tract Infections due to E. coli, various strains of streptococci, P. mirabilis, Klebsiella species and S. aureus. Bone and joint infections due to S. aureus. Septicemia due to S. pneumoniae, S. aureus (penicillin-sensitive and penicillin-resistant), P. mirabilis, E. coli, and Klebsiella species. Endocarditis due to S. aureus (penicillin-sensitive and penicillin-resistant) and group A beta-hemolytic streptococci. Appropriate culture and susceptibility studies should be performed to determine susceptibility of the causative organism to cefazolin."


Cefazolin Sodium, Side Effects, Destination Rx:"Notify your doctor immediately if an allergic reaction occurs while using CEFAZOLIN SODIUM. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, skin rash, hives, itching. Tell your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, severe stomach cramps, watery or bloody diarrhea, fever or unusual weakness either while using CEFAZOLIN SODIUM or after discontinuing use. Also, report promptly any persistent sore throat, easy bruising or bleeding or a change in amount of urine. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist."


Cefazolin Sodium, General Infirmation, Center Watch:"Cefazolin and Dextrose USP, for injection, has recently been approved using the Duplex drug delivery system, for the treatment of various bacterial infections. The multiple indications for this combination therapy include, but are not limited to respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, biliary tract infections, bone and joint infections, genital infections, septicemia (bloodstream infections), endocarditis (inflammatory disorder of the heart valves), and perioperative prophylaxis."

Cefazolin Sodium, Effort Thrombosis With Sepsis, MAY 1999, THE PHYSICIAN AND SPORTSMEDICINE:"Just before discharge on day 12 of hospitalization, a central line was placed in the left internal jugular vein for an additional 16 days of IV antibiotic (cefazolin sodium) to complete a 28-day course."
