Tolterodine Tartrate(Detrol LA), Precautions, DetrolLA.com:"DETROL LA should be used with caution by patients with any of the following conditions: significant bladder outflow blockage (slow urinary stream), because of the risk of urinary retention; gastrointestinal blockage disorders, such as pyloric stenosis (a narrowing of the opening where the stomach empties into the small intestine), because of the risk of gastric retention; narrow-angle glaucoma that is being treated; and liver or kidney disease. For patients with liver disease or kidney disease the recommended dose is 2 mg daily. Medicines like DETROL LA may cause blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness."

Tolterodine, Indications, RXlist:"DETROL Tablets are indicated for the treatment of patients with an overactive bladder with symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency, or urge incontinence."
http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic2/tolter_ids.htm

Tolterodine, Proper Use, MEDLINEplus:"Take this medicine only as directed. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. To do so may increase the chance of side effects. The extended release capsules should be taken with liquids and swallowed whole."

Tolterodine Tartrate(Detrol), Clinical Results, CenterWatch.com:"Three placebo-controlled, 12 week studies were held involving a total of 339 patients who received Detrol 2 mg twice daily and 177 patients who received the placebo. The majority of patients were Caucasian (95%) and female (75%), with the mean age being 60 years of age (range 19-91). At their entrance into the study almost all patients perceived symptoms of urgency (98%) and increased frequency of micturitions (89%) and urge incontinence (83%). These characteristics were balanced across treatment groups for all three studies."

Tolterodine(Detrol), Bladder and bowel dysfunction, RemedyFind.com:"Detrol (Tolterodine) is a medication used to control urinary incontinence. It relaxes the muscle cells of the urinary tract and increases urinary bladder capacity. By decreasing muscle spasms of the bladder, Tolterodine reduces the need for frequent urination caused by the spasms."

******************************************************

Tolterodine Tartrate, Side Effects, xreferences:"Side effects: include dry mouth, constipation, indigestion, nausea, abdominal discomfort, flatulence, vomiting, headache, dry skin, dry eyes, drowsiness, nervousness, tingling in the fingers, and (more rarely) blurred vision, chest pain, and difficulty in passing urine."
http://www.xrefer.com/entry/475791

******************************************************

Tolterodine, Clinical Pharmacology, Mosby's DRUG Consult:"Tolterodine is a competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist. Both urinary bladder contraction and salivation are mediated via cholinergic muscarinic receptors. In the anesthetized cat, tolterodine shows a selectivity for the urinary bladder over salivary glands; however, the clinical relevance of this finding has not been established."

******************************************************

Tolterodine Tartrate(Detrol), Why Prescribed, Health Square:"Detrol combats symptoms of overactive bladder, including frequent urination, urgency (increased need to urinate), and urge incontinence (inability to control urination). The drug works by blocking the nerve impulses that prompt the bladder to contract."
