Emergency Contraception Options in the U.S., Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP):"There are a number of emergency contraception options available in the U.S. Two basic types of emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) are: (1) C-ECPs, ordinary combined hormonal contraceptive pills containing estrogen and progestin (the Yuzpe regimen) and the dedicated combined hormonal product Preven™ (Gynétics), or (2) P-ECPs, progestin-only pills, a newer method,7 and the dedicated progestin-only product, Plan B™ (Women’s Capital Corp.). Both types of ECPs work by preventing ovulation, fertilization or implantation. They are not abortifacients—they will not interrupt or harm an established pregnancy.8 Consumers are still concerned about the issue of abortion and whether or not ECPs are the same as mifepristone (RU486), which they are not."

Back Up Your Birth Control:"Simply put, emergency contraception – or EC for short – is a back-up method of birth control. EC is a safe and effective way to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse or contraceptive failure. It is available in the U.S. by prescription. EC is a higher dosage of the same hormones found in daily birth control pills. EC - when used within days of unprotected sex - can significantly reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy. There are two "dedicated" EC products on the market in the U.S. today: Plan B and Preven. They are available by prescription."

Emergency Contraception: The Resource Guide for California, California Abortion & Reproductive Rights Action League:"The CARAL Pro-Choice Education Fund first published Emergency Contraception: the Resource Guide for California in 2000. At that time, only 1% of women in the United States had ever used emergency contraception. A year later, as we publish this Second Edition, not much has changed. Still only 1-2% of women in the United States have ever used emergency contraception, and many have still never heard of it. Yet emergency contraception could prevent up to 1.7 million unintended pregnancies in the United States each year."

Introducing EC to the Mainstream, Consortium for Emergency Contraception:"In 1995, the Rockefeller Foundation convened a meeting in Bellagio, Italy, to discuss emergency contraception. A key outcome of the meeting was the recognition that expanding access to emergency contraception in developing countries had the potential to significantly reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. Soon after the Bellagio meeting, a group of seven internationally respected organizations working in the field of family planning formed the Consortium for Emergency Contraception and set out to demonstrate that this "second chance" contraceptive could become a part of mainstream reproductive health care. The Consortium's mission was especially compelling given the stark reality that many unplanned pregnancies in developing countries result in illegal abortion, exacting a huge toll on women's health and well being."

Emergency Birth Control - the Emergency Contraception and Morning After Pill Information Site, Emergencybirthcontrol.org:"A woman does not become pregnant immediately after having sex. The process of becoming pregnant can take as long as a week. According to Princeton University, medical science defines the beginning of pregnancy as the successful implantation of a fertilized egg in the lining of the uterus. EBC pills can interrupt the process at several points after a woman has sex but before implantation occurs, thereby preventing her from becoming pregnant."

Emergency Contraceptive Insertion of the Copper T Intrauterine Device (IUD), Family Planning Program, Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics, Emory University School of Medicine:"For up to 7 days after unprotected intercourse, you can have an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted to keep you from getting pregnant. When used after unprotected sex, the Copper T 380 A IUD is inserted into the uterus. It prevents implantation of a fertilized egg (if an egg was fertilized by the unprotected sex). Complete information about this emergency contraceptive is available from your clinician. 50% of the 3.5 million unintended pregnancies each year in the U.S. could be prevented by the use of emergency contraception. You need to know in advance that there is something you can do if a condom breaks or you are forced to have sex. It is much better to use a contraceptive at the time of intercourse (condoms, pills, or even withdrawal), but if you have unprotected sex, emergency insertion of an IUD will reduce your chance of getting pregnant."

Emergency Contraception, Side Effects, Feminist Women's Health Center:"Common side effects for women who use birth control pills for EC are nausea, vomiting, headaches, breast tenderness, dizziness, fluid retention and irregular bleeding. These side effects usually disappear after 1-2 days. Side effects are rare when Plan B is used. To reduce nausea, women can take EC pills with food or take anti-nausea medication. If you vomit within one hour of taking one of your EC doses, you may have to take more pills. Call your clinic for instructions."

What is Emergency Contraception? Not-2-Late.com:"Emergency contraceptives are methods of preventing pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse. They do not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Emergency contraception can be used when a condom breaks, after a sexual assault, or any time unprotected sexual intercourse occurs. Do not use emergency contraceptives as your only protection against pregnancy if you are sexually active or planning to be, because they are not as effective as any ongoing contraceptive method. Emergency contraceptives available in the United States include: emergency contraceptive pills and the copper-T intrauterine device."

Emergency Contraception, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:"... can prevent pregnancy after unprotected vaginal intercourse. It is also called post-coital or "morning-after" contraception. ... is available from health care providers, Planned Parenthood health centers, and other women's health and family planning centers. ... is provided in two ways emergency contraception pills (ECPs) insertion of an IUD ... is used only if a woman is not already pregnant from a previous act of intercourse. EC prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation, fertilization, or implantation. It will not effect an existing pregnancy. And it will not cause an abortion."

Dial EC, Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina:"You should consider getting a prescription for EC if: you did not use contraception during sex, or your contraception did not work (your condom broke, or you missed 2 or more pills), or you were forced to have sex. You want a prescription just in case you need it in the future."

Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."
