Intal, Who is this for, Drug Digest:"Cromolyn is used to prevent the wheezing, shortness of breath, and troubled breathing caused by asthma. It also is used to prevent breathing difficulties (bronchospasm) during exercise. It works by preventing the release of substances that cause inflammation (swelling) in the air passages of the lungs. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information."

Intal, Special Warnings About This Medication, Health Square:"Asthma symptoms may recur if the recommended dosage of Intal is reduced or discontinued. Intal has no role in the treatment of an acute asthmatic attack once it has begun. Obtain medical help immediately if you experience a severe attack.

If you have liver or kidney problems, your doctor may have to reduce the dosage or even take you off the drug altogether.

When using the capsules, you may accidentally inhale some powder, which can irritate your throat or make you cough. Try rinsing your mouth or taking a drink of water immediately before and/or after using the Spinhaler."

Cromolyn (Inhalation), Description, MEDLINEplus:"Cromolyn (KROE-moe-lin) is used to prevent the symptoms of asthma. When it is used regularly, cromolyn lessens the number and severity of asthma attacks by reducing inflammation in the lungs. Cromolyn is also used just before exposure to conditions or substances (for example, exercise, allergens, such as pollen, aspirin, chemicals, cold air, or air pollutants) that cause bronchospasm (wheezing or difficulty in breathing). Cromolyn will not help an asthma or bronchospasm attack that has already started.

Cromolyn may be used alone or with other asthma medicines, such as bronchodilators (medicines that open up narrowed breathing passages) or corticosteroids (cortisone-like medicines).

Cromolyn inhalation works by acting on certain inflammatory cells in the lungs to prevent them from releasing substances that cause asthma symptoms or bronchospasm."

If you are taking the oral capsule, open capsule and pour contents into a glass of hot water. Stir until the contents are completely dissolved. Add cool water and drink all of the liquid. Do not mix with juice, milk, or carbonated beverages. If you are using the inhalation capsules, empty the contents of the capsule into the inhaler. The contents of one capsule are inhaled four times daily at regular intervals. If you are using the nebulizer solution, one ampule is administered four times per day at regular intervals, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. The effects of this medicine last three or four hours. It is important that you take your medication as directed and at the same times each day. Skipping doses and doubling doses can aggravate the condition. Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed."
