Adalimumab, Side Effects, MedicineNet.com:"The most common side effects are headache, rash, nausea and stomach upset. Adalimumab may cause swelling, redness, pain and itching at the site of injection . Adalimumab suppresses the immune system and is therefore associated with minor infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract and sinuses. Like other drugs that block TNF, use of adalimumab also has been associated with serious infections such as tuberculosis , sepsis (bacteria in the blood) and fungal infections. Individuals with active infections should not be treated with adalimumab. Adalimumab also may worsen the symptoms of diseases of the nervous system. In studies some patients who used adalimumab or other TNF blocking drugs developed cancer. Since patients with rheumatoid arthritis have a higher rate of cancers than the general population, the connection between cancer and use of adalimumab is unclear."

Adalimumab Injection, Important Warnings, MEDLINEplus.com:"Adalimumab may increase the chance that you will develop a serious infection, including tuberculosis. You may already be infected with tuberculosis but not have any symptoms of the disease. In this case, adalimumab may make your infection more serious and cause you to develop symptoms. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had tuberculosis or recurrent infections or have been around someone who has or has ever had tuberculosis. Tell your doctor if you are taking medications that suppress the immune system such as azathioprine (Imuran), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), sirolimus (Rapamune), and tacrolimus (Prograf). Before you begin your treatment, your doctor will perform a skin test to see if you have tuberculosis. If you do have tuberculosis, your doctor will treat this infection with antibiotics before you begin taking adalimumab. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: dry cough, weakness, night sweats, fever, and weight loss."

Adalimumab Injection, What should I do if I forget a dose, SafeMedication.com:"Inject the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Then inject the next dose on your regularly scheduled day. Adalimumab, What is the most important information I should know about adalimumab, WebMd Health:"Serious, even fatal, infections have been reported to occur during treatment with adalimumab. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop signs of infection such as fever or chills, sore throat, coughing, congestion, weight loss, night sweats, or other signs of infection; redness, pain, or swelling of a skin wound; or burning or difficult urination.

A tuberculin skin test should be performed before starting treatment with adalimumab. Latent (inactive) tuberculosis infection may become symptomatic due to treatment with adalimumab.

Treatment with an immunosuppressant such as adalimumab may increase the risk of developing certain types of cancer (e.g., lymphoma). Treatment with adalimumab may also increase the risk of developing an autoimmune disorder such as a lupus-like syndrome. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of this medication."

HUMIRA (Adalimumab), Important Information about HUMIRA, YaleNewHavenHealth.org:"HUMIRA is a human-derived antibody that binds to human tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha). TNF is naturally produced by the body and is involved with normal inflammatory and immune responses. Individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, a disease that affects more than 2 million Americans, have high levels of TNF in the synovial fluid (lubricating fluid in joints). The extra TNF plays an important role in both the inflammation and the joint destruction that are hallmarks of RA.

The efficacy and safety of HUMIRA were assessed in four randomized, double-blind studies in adult patients. HUMIRAreduce signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis in over half the . In one of the four studies, patients were treated for a year and then evaluated radiographically. Patients treated with HUMIRA plus methotrexate (MTX) demonstrated less joint deterioration than patients receiving MTX alone."
