Chlorzoxazone, (Parafon Forte), Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical:"PARAFON FORTE® DSC Caplets 500 mg (chlorzoxazone) is a centrally acting prescription drug indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy, and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. The mode of action of this drug has not been clearly identified, but may be related to its sedative properties. Chlorzoxazone does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles in man. PARAFON FORTE DSC was cleared for marketing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1987. (Its predecessor products were available since the 1950s.) Serious (including fatal) hepatocellular toxicity has been reported rarely in patients receiving chlorzoxazone. The mechanism is unknown but appears to be idiosyncratic and unpredictable. Factors predisposing patients to this event are not known. Patients should be instructed to report early signs and/or symptoms of hepatoxicity such as rash, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, right upper quadrant pain, dark urine, or jaundice. Chlorzoxazone should be discontinued immediately and a physician consulted if any of these symptoms develop. Chlorzoxazone should also be discontinued if a patient develops abnormal liver enzymes (e.g. AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin). The concomitant use of alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may have an additive effect."

Chlorzoxazone, (Parafon Forte), Malahyde Information Systems:"PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION: Data available from animal experiments as well as human studies indicate that chlorzoxazone acts primarily at the level of the spinal cord and subcortical areas of the brain where it inhibits multisynaptic reflex arcs involved in producing and maintaining skeletal muscle spasm of varied etiology. The analgesic action of paracetamol supplements that which results secondarily from muscle relaxation. Paracetamol possesses antipyretic action. INDICATIONS: PARAFON FORTE tablets are indicated for the relief of severe skeletal muscle spasm and pain associated with such medical and orthopaedic problems as: sprains and strains, myalgias, torticollis, tension headaches, traumatic muscle injuries, low back pain, fibrositis, cervical root and disc syndromes. CONTRA-INDICATIONS: PARAFON FORTE tablets are contra-indicated in patients sensitive to either component."

Chlorzoxazone, (Parafon Forte), Medical Corps:"Category: Muscle relaxant. Description: Skeletal muscle relaxant. Indications: Adjunct for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful, musculoskeletal conditions; does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles. Contraindications: Impaired hepatic function.",%20Myoforte,%20Paraflex).htm

Chlorzoxazone, (Parafon Forte),"Skeletal muscle relaxants are used to relax certain muscles in your body and relieve the stiffness, pain, and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, or other injury to your muscles. However, these medicines do not take the place of rest, exercise or physical therapy, or other treatment that your doctor may recommend for your medical problem. Methocarbamol also has been used to relieve some of the muscle problems caused by tetanus. Skeletal muscle relaxants act in the central nervous system (CNS) to produce their muscle relaxant effects. Their actions in the CNS may also produce some of their side effects. In the U.S., these medicines are available only with your doctor's prescription. In Canada, some of these medicines are available without a prescription."

Chlorzoxazone, (Parafon Forte), PDR's Getting Well Network:"The effects of Parafon Forte DSC during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. This drug may appear in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment is finished."

Chlorzoxazone, (Parafon Forte), RxList:"PARAFON FORTE DSC chlorzoxazone is indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy, and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute painful musculoskeletal conditions. The mode of action of this drug has not been clearly identified, but may be related to its sedative properties. Chlorzoxazone does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles in man. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Usual Adult Dosage: One caplet three or four times daily. If adequate response is not obtained with this dose, it may be increased to 11/2 caplets (750 mg) three or four times daily. As improvement occurs dosage can usually be reduced."

Chlorzoxazone, (Parafon Forte), HealthSquare:"Take Parafon Forte DSC exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not increase the dose or take it more often than prescribed. Parafon Forte DSC occasionally discolors urine orange or purple red. If you miss a dose: Take it as soon as you remember, if it is within an hour or so of the missed time. Otherwise, skip the dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses a once. Storage instructions: Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container."

Chlorzoxazone, (Parafon Forte),, LLC.:"Dietary Advice: Take it with meals to lessen stomach upset. Be sure to eat a well-balanced diet; the healing of injured tissue increases the body's protein and calorie requirements. To avoid dry mouth, maintain adequate fluid intake and suck on ice chips if desired. Storage: Store in a tightly sealed container in a dry place away from heat and direct light. Missed Dose: Take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage schedule. Do not double the next dose. Stopping the Drug: The decision to stop taking the drug should be made by your doctor. Gradual reduction of the dose may be necessary if you have taken the drug for a long time.",1524,133,00.html
