IV Heart Failure Drugs, CHFpatients.com:"IV drugs are given by injection or directly into a blood vessel. This kind of therapy for heart failure is usually only offered when you are decompensated and in the hospital. This may be changing, though. IV therapy should always be started in the hospital. Currently, IV drugs for heart failure can be roughly separated into two categories: inotropes and non-inotropes."

Injecting Drug Use, Emedicine.com:"Most injecting drug users (IDUs) inject their drugs intravenously, but subcutaneous injection (ie, "skin-popping") also is common, and intramuscular injection may occur intentionally or when the individual misses the vein or the subcutaneous space. Injecting drug use is associated with many local and systemic complications for the individual and also is associated with the transmission of infectious diseases via needle sharing and sexual activity. The most commonly injected drugs are heroin and cocaine. Amphetamines, buprenorphine, benzodiazepines, and barbiturates also are injected. Any water-soluble drug may be injected. Treatment of IDUs may be complicated by social and political barriers to treatment and, in developing countries, by a lack of resources for public health approaches to treatment."

Intravenous therapy, Wikipedia.org:"Intravenous therapy or IV therapy is the giving of liquid substances directly into a vein. It can be intermittent or continuous; continuous administration is called an intravenous drip. The word intravenous simply means "within a vein", but is most commonly used to refer to IV therapy. Therapies administered intravenously are often called specialty pharmaceuticals. Compared with other routes of administration, the intravenous route is the fastest way to deliver fluids and medications throughout the body. Some medications, as well as blood transfusions and lethal injections, can only be given intravenously."
